New images show how luxurious lakeside cabins are set to be created within the grounds of a rural Northumberland hotel.
Hospitality company The Doxford Group has revealed it is adding luxurious lakeside cabins on its private countryside estate near Alnwick, and guests won’t have long to wait before they can make a booking. The Lake Cabins at The Tempus will be based overlooking the estate’s picturesque lake when they open this spring.
Each cabin is designed for two guests and will feature modern amenities including a private terrace that offers views of the estate’s lake and grounds, set within the tranquil and luxurious retreat in Northumberland. The cabins are being designed by Jeffreys Interiors, which has previously worked with The Doxford Group, which says that each lakeside cabin will complement the estate’s existing accommodation, with “stylish interiors and exceptional comfort”.
The new Lake Cabins at The Tempus form part of the second phase of the estate’s development, which started with the opening of Doxford Barns 10 years ago. Owner and director Richard Shell’s first project on the land saw him convert empty barns within the family’s farm into a unique wedding venue, offering space for three-day weddings with accommodation on site.

Two years later he acquired the 18th Century Charlton Hall, in Chathill, for an undisclosed sum, before transforming it into a stunning setting for couples looking to marry in a magical, private setting. The Grade II listed building is famed for its quirky decor and also offers spaces for up to 160 guests for corporate retreats, events and exclusive hire.
The Tempus, meanwhile, opened as a 15-bedroom hotel, bar and restaurant in May 2023 and has since seen the addition of two new ground floor bedrooms, bringing the total to 48 rooms on the estate to date. Mr Shell said the latest investment reinforces The Doxford Group’s dedication to offering unforgettable guest experiences in the Northumberland countryside.
He said: “This new development marks an exciting chapter in the group’s journey as we continue to expand our current offering on our estate. This is the first time we have ventured beyond the immediate perimeter of Charlton Hall and forms part of the broader expansion that will see additional leisure facilities, designed to provide even more opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment.
“As we continue to grow, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of luxury and comfort for our guests, ensuring each stay is not only exceptional but a truly memorable experience.
“We have seen a rapid increase in demand for onsite accommodation over the past four years, and we are proud that we will be able to host up to 100 guests from spring 2025. This expansion is a testament to our team’s dedication and the continued support for our valued visitors.”
