People in the North East are being warned to expect strong winds next week.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Monday, with gusts of up to 60mph possible in some areas. The forecasters say the strong winds could result in travel disruption.
An alert runs from 11am on Monday, December 30, until 6pm the same day. This covers Durham and Northumberland. The warning says: “Westerly winds will be strong and gust at times. Gusts of 50-60mph are possible over high ground.”
People have been advised that the weather could affect some bus and train services, with some journeys taking longer or being delayed. High-sided vehicles on exposed routes may also experience delays.
Forecasters also warn that short term loss of power is also possible and advised people to be prepared for potential power cuts.

The weather experts said: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items. Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
