The North East will see mixed conditions at the weekend according to the Met Office, who predict sunshine, showers and long spells of rain for some of the UK. While heavy rain is gradually subsiding, some showers are expected to continue across the North of the UK through Friday.
Meanwhile, much of England will see dry weather tomorrow – with the south lapping up the best of the sunshine. Saturday looks to be dry for most of the UK, with Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway explaining: “The Bank Holiday weekend will see some sunny spells and it will feel quite pleasant in the sunshine for many on Saturday in particular.
“Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday will likely see a return to sunshine and showers. Low pressure to the west is likely to push fronts into the UK on Sunday, these tending to break up and turn more showery in nature as they do so.
“We are likely to see some heavy, possibly thundery showers on both days, but there should still be some dry spells in between, and in any sunshine it will feel pleasantly warm.”
For Newcastle, the Met Office’s forecast on Friday (May 24), reads: “Cloudy with residual rain and drizzle breaking up into showers around lunchtime, some heavy in the afternoon. Brighter for most, with any sunny spells remaining brief. Maximum temperature 15 °C.”
The outlook for Saturday to Monday, meanwhile, is: “Dry and bright, perhaps sunny Saturday. Warm inland but some low cloud along the coast. Some rain overnight. Sunny spells and heavy showers on Sunday and Monday, potentially thundery.”
