Michelle Keegan’s TV show axed after six years as fans left heartbroken

Pregnant actress Michelle Keegan, who is currently expecting her first child with hubby Mark Wright, has won over a new army of fans after taking on a lead role in the Sky drama, Brassic. However, after six years, the show is being axed by TV bosses, who argue that it’s not a negative move to take it off screens, despite its recent success.

Michelle, who shot to fame on Coronation Street, has led the show alongside Joe Gilgun since it debuted on the network in 2019. But the seventh series, which is currently being filmed and will air later this year, will see the characters make their final appearance.

Show bosses have expressed that the programme has exceeded their wildest expectations. Just last week, Michelle revealed she was on set filming but gave no hint to her followers that her character, Erin, would be permanently off screens in the near future, reports the Mirror.

In a statement, co-creator and writer Danny Brocklehurst said: “When Joe Gilgun and I sat down to create Brassic, we couldn’t have imagined, in our wildest dreams, that we would do seven series and gather such a loyal and loving fan base.

“It’s been an absolute joy to create this eccentric world, but all good things must come to an end, and we want to stop while we are still riding high. Maybe they can finally give us that BAFTA.”

But despite the show being cancelled, Sky recently announced that Brassic has been their most successful comedy across the network to date.

“Fans very quickly became attached to this dynamic group of friends, as they found unconventional ways to win at life in northern suburbia,” shared a spokesperson for the network, full of praise for the beloved series.

They continued, expressing gratitude: “We would like to thank Joe Gilgun, Danny Brocklehurst and the whole cast and crew past and present for bringing us all a truly iconic series, which we’ve loved for its special mix of hilarity and heart.”

Ever since the announcement of the show’s cancellation hit the internet, social media has been buzzing with fans sharing their heartache. One fan wrote: “Devastated about #Brassic being cancelled… a hell of a show.” (sic)

Meanwhile, another chimed in: “Six years late to the party, but over the last couple of months I have watched all six seasons of #Brassic, and I think it is one of the best British shows of this century. It is absolutely superb. You will laugh and you will cry, and I can’t recommend it enough.” (sic)

On a lighter note, the fabulous Michelle took her followers behind the scenes on Instagram, posting some charming sneak peeks of the chilly on-set fun, complete with cozy snowy selfies and candid shots alongside her co-stars.

In a particularly stunning snap, she’s captured effortlessly disguising her bump beneath a snug green crew coat and casual cargos, sporting Erin’s signature half-up hairdo as she pores over her script with utmost dedication.

All six seasons of Brassic are available to stream via Sky Maz or NOW. The first four seasons are also on Netflix.
