A town, which is a very popular location with people in the North East and was recently named the UK’s ‘must visit’ place for solo travellers, is set for a slice of big screen stardom in the new film about the country’s most famous singleton, Bridget Jones.
Some 24 years after Bridget make her cinema debut in the first film to be adapted from Helen Fielding’s famous novels and nine years on from her last movie outing in Bridget Jones’ Baby, Bridget is back in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Bay, which will be released just in time for Valentine’s Day, on February 13.
The fourth instalment also stars High Grant, Leo Woodall and Isla Fisher and sees Bridget finally get some contentment in her life, with a great job as a screenwriter and a hot young boyfriend, before problems start to creep in. And, as well as becoming thoroughly invested in Bridget’s exploits all over again, viewers might want to keep an eye out for a place they’re sure to have been to whether it be on a school trip or weekend away.
And that place is Keswick, which recently topped a list by holidaycottages.co.uk of the best places for solo travellers to check out. Most of Mad About A Boy is filmed in the Lake District hotspot, with experts now convinced that Keswick’s key role in the Bridget Jones film will send bookings to stay there through the roof.
Somewhere else that made the top 10 of the solo travellers recommendations list is Alnwick in Northumberland. As well as having attention grabbing architecture, hidden gems like Barter Books and stunning views right on its door step, Alnwick has also been used countless times for blockbuster movies and hit TV shows. Harry Potter was famously filmed at Alnwick Castle, and has now inspired a new shop, while BAFTA winner Brenda and her Vera co-stars have been in and around the town to shoot the much loved ITV crime drama.
Giving the town and the wider Northumberland area high praise as the 5th best place to check out on their list, Holiday Cottages said: “While the town itself boasts attractions like Alnwick Castle and the beautiful Alnwick Garden, the true gem is the nearby Northumberland Coast, offering miles of unspoiled beaches, scenic hiking trails, coastal views and incredible wildlife. Bamburgh Beach, with its dramatic views of Bamburgh Castle, is a perfect spot for quiet reflection, while the Farne Islands can be explored via boat trips, where solo travellers can spot puffins, seals, and other wildlife.”
