A new series on Netflix has been dubbed ‘so binge worthy’ by viewers, who have been left ‘yelling at the TV’ by the four-parter. Norwegian-produced drama La Palma has already garnered a lot of attention just days after its release on the streaming platform.
The limited series offers an alternative festive viewing for those looking for something different. The official synopsis reveals: “It’s Christmas and high season when a Norwegian family checks into their favourite hotel on the island of La Palma. But beneath the idyll, a danger lurks.
“A young Norwegian scientist discovers alarming signs about the volcano located in the centre of the holiday paradise. She must convince her colleagues that the worst-case scenario is about to happen,” the description reads.

“If the volcano erupts, a mountain mass the size of Manhattan might erupt into the sea and cause the largest tsunami the world has ever seen. Will the family manage to escape the disaster of ash, gas and lava in a fight for their lives?”
The show has quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the top ten most watched series on Netflix in the UK, currently sitting third behind new releases Black Doves and No Good Deed. While La Palma is a real place with Cumbre Vieja being the most active volcano on the Canary Islands, the show is purely fictional. The volcano did erupt in 2021, but the series is not based on these events.
Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t accumulated enough reviews to hand out an official score for the new series just yet, however viewers have not held back on sharing their rave reviews. One eager fan who had already binged the entire season gushed online: “This show is SO binge-worthy. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and it’s exciting from start to finish. Loved it.”

Another joined in praising the show’s flair: “La Palma delivers stunning visuals, compelling characters with each there own unique stories, and nonstop suspense throughout the series. It’s an exciting, well-crafted mini-series that keeps you hooked from start to finish,” reports the Mirror.
Meanwhile, a pleasantly surprised viewer commented: “The show was a positive surprise for me. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Well written and directed and a nice overall message on climate change. Some scenes were too slow and redundant but overall I definitely recommend it, if you enjoy the genre.”
Yet, not everyone was impressed, with some niggling aspects of the plot drawing criticism, including a few frustrating scenes that made someone vent: “Lots of me yelling at TV – ‘get out of there now, why doesn’t that plane take off? , don’t get off that plane.'” Emotions ran high for another viewer, who confessed to shedding tears over the intense episodes: “I’m over here balling my eyes out and rose over here just a humming ..10/10.”
