New images and an official opening date have been unveiled for the latest in luxury glamping in Northumberland.
We announced last month how The Doxford Group is busy working on the latest phase of investment at its quiet countryside estate, set less than an hour’s drive from Newcastle, near Alnwick.
Nestled within the countryside estate and surrounded by serene woodlands, The Lake Cabins at The Tempus will overlook the picturesque lake and elevate the current accommodation offering, increasing the estate’s capacity to welcome up to 100 guests.
Eight lakeside cabins are being created in all, and new images show just how they will look, inside and out. Designed for two guests, with dogs also welcome, designers of the cabins say they will offer a truly unique stay, with elegant contemporary design and indulgent features, including a private terrace with handcrafted William Holland Petit Alvius copper spa bath.
The company is working with award-winning Jeffreys Interiors, lifestyle brand Lusso and homeware brand Restoration Hardware, saying each cabin will have rich palettes to complement the surrounding woodlands and furniture to add comfort and character.

Guests staying at The Lake Cabins at The Tempus will also have access to The Orangery restaurant and bar at The Tempus, where they can have breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Jo Aynsley Design Director & Co-Owner at Jeffreys Interiors, said: “Following our recent win at the International Property Awards for Best International Hotel Interior for our work with The Tempus, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with The Doxford Group to bring the Lake Cabins at The Tempus to life. It has been an honour to work alongside Richard and his team from the very start of their journey with Charlton Hall and the estate, and we look forward to collaborating on future projects as the estate continues to grow.”
The company has now announced an official opening date for the Lake Cabins at The Tempus, which are available to book now for stays from May 30. The luxury cabins mark the second phase of the estate’s development, which began more than 10 years ago when founder and director Richard Shell converted empty buildings on the family’s farm into wedding venue Doxford Barns.
Two years later he snapped up the 18th Century Charlton Hall, in Chathill and transformed into one the region’s quirkiest properties to host weddings, corporate retreats, events and exclusive hire. The Tempus, followed in 2023, as a 15-bedroom hotel, bar and restaurant which has since seen the addition of two new ground floor bedrooms.
Mr Shell said: “It’s an exciting time for us here at The Doxford Group as we share further details of The Lake Cabins at The Tempus. We’re delighted to give guests a glimpse of this new development which combines luxurious design with the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. We’ve teamed up with Jeffreys Interiors to create a truly unique offering that promises to elevate the guest experience and provide a memorable stay.
“Their expertise and creative design have been essential in shaping The Lake Cabins at The Tempus, helping us craft a luxurious overnight stay experience that enhances the beauty of the estate. We look forward to welcoming visitors to experience this next chapter and continue to create lasting memories with each visit.”
