Newcastle bar loved by United stars promises after party until 3am after cup final

A popular and always packed out bar in Newcastle, that’s been known to attract a United star or two over the years, will open its doors until 3am on Sunday, whatever the result at Wembley, as everyone on Tyyneside hopes that the Magpies win the Carabao Cup final and end a 70 year drought for silverware.

There were epic scenes in London on Saturday afternoon and evening as Newcastle fans partied in Covent Garden ahead of the big match against Liverpool, with many of them heading to Wembley to take one of 32,000 seats allocated to the club for this year’s final. And after Eddie Howe’s men lost 2-0 to Man United in the final two years ago, the team, coaching staff, fans and all of Newcastle will be hoping for a very different result this time round.

While Cosy Joes won’t actually be among the many places in Newcastle to watch the final, it will be opening its doors at 6.30pm, for what they hope will be one massive celebration, with both floors at the Groat Market bar open right the way through until 3am. Nearly everyone in Newcastle is bound to have been to Cosy’s at least once and will know that, while there’s plenty of dancing to be done in the main bar downstairs, upstairs is where the karaoke magic happens and, whenever Newcastle win at home, there’s every chance you’ll hear someone belting out either Gimme Gimme Gimme, in honour of Alexander Isak or doing Pretty Green Eyes for Dan Burn.

Their teammates Kieran Trippier and Matty Targett headed there back in May 2023, after NUFC clinched a place in the Champions League, so don’t rule out a return visit for some first teamers should the result at Wembley go their way this weekend! And at the end of last month, Sam Fender’s band partied hard at Cosys on the eve of new album People Watching being released.

Like many other bars and pubs in town, Cosy Joes will be free entry on Sunday, with things done on a walk in basis. If you’re thinking it might be your place to party, your best bet is to head there straight after full time, particularly if you want your name down for karaoke!
