They were very much on the horizon following the first leg win in London last month, but plans for a huge Newcastle United Fan Zone in the city centre for the Carabao Cup final have now been officially confirmed, in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday night’s glorious win against Arsenal. And tickets are already being snapped up in their droves.
Given that Newcastle brought a commanding 2-0 advantage back with them from the first leg of the semi against their Premier League rivals, it was announced that a fan zone could be taking over Times Square should they go onto make the final, with ticket details left unconfirmed, as organisers tried not to tempt fate too much.
However, two years on from NUFC’s loss to Man United in the 2023 Carabao Cup final, a return to Wembley is now signed, sealed and delivered, as Eddie Howe’s men also got a 2-0 victory over Arsenal under the lights at St James’ Park on Wednesday. After super striker Alexander Isak had a goal disallowed in the opening minutes, with VAR ruling offside in what looked like a very tight call; Jacob Murphy gave United a 1-0 lead, when he was there to get the rebound after Isak saw his effort come back off the woodwork.
The score was 2-0 in the 52nd minute, when Anthony Gordon scored to make the aggregate score 4-0. And that was exactly how the score stayed, with choruses of ‘Tell me ma, me ma’ echoing out around the stands at SJP long before the final whistle was blown.
Newcastle fans will now hope to get their hands on tickets for the final at Wembley on Sunday, March 16; but if you don’t manage to get one, a great alternative will be the massive Fan Zone that will take over Times Square, a place famous for being a football fan mecca for events like the World Cup and Euros.
Further details on the city centre Zone have now been released, with tickets going on sale at 10pm on Wednesday night and already being in huge demand. They are available from Fatsoma and priced from £12.50 for general admission, with tables at the front for eight people costing £140+.
Organisers Evnt Inspirations are promising two huge screens to watch the match on, a 30 metre bar, local food vendors and live DJs.
The Fan Zone for the cup final will come at the end of a hectic weekend at Times Square for Paddy Fest, with a student darts night on the Thursday, Flight Night on the Friday – which is 90% sold out – and the main day of Paddy Fest on the Saturday.
