Police statement – one taken to hospital
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12pm today (Thursday), we received a report of a collision at the Shields Road junction of Heaton Road in Newcastle. It was reported that a car had collided with a pedestrian.
“The pedestrian – a man in his 60s – is believed to have sustained non-life threatening injuries to his leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to assist with enquiries.
“The junction was closed for a short period of time but has since reopened.”
