Newcastle United are going to Wembley again after overcoming Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to book their place in the Carabao Cup Final next month.
Eddie Howe’s side have set up another Wembley showpiece final for the second time in three years after beating the Gunners 4-0 on aggregate. The Toon were beaten by Manchester United 2-0 in their last trip to the home of English football back in 2023 and they’ll be hoping to return with some silverware this time round.
Newcastle, who led 2-0 after the first leg booked their place, made a fast start and took the lead in the 19th minute through Jacob Murphy – moments after Alexander Isak had a goal ruled out controversially. Anthony Gordon added a second in the second half to ensure the Toon won the second leg 2-0.
Following their two-legged win over Arsenal, Newcastle now face either Tottenham or Liverpool in the final at Wembley in March. The second leg of that tie is due to take place at Anfield on Thursday, with Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs boasting a 1-0 advantage from the first leg last month.
