Newcastle United drop two early team news hints for Bromley as Eddie Howe faces FA Cup decision

Newcastle United are back in action this afternoon (Sunday) as they host Bromley in the FA Cup third round. Eddie Howe’s side will be looking for more cup success after taking a lead in their Carabao Cup semi-final in midweek.

Newcastle came out as 2-0 winners in the first leg of their final four clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. They now have to wait just under a month until the second leg at St James’ Park.

Just a few days after the first leg, a different challenge now awaits the team in the FA Cup third round. The Magpies take on League Two side Bromely in the 3pm kick-off with the opponents looking to cause the first major upset of the weekend.

With the hectic fixture schedule and playing a lower league opposition, the game could give Howe the chance to rotate his team, and give players who may have struggled for game time this season more minutes. It could also be a chance to rest some key players ahead of Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against Wolves.

One player who has struggled for game time this season is Miguel Almiron. The winger has made just seven Premier League appearances and has been linked with a move away in the January transfer window.

However, the Paraguayan has shared a pre-match graphic on his Instagram story ahead of the match. Doing so has historically hinted that a player is likely to feature in the matchday squad – so it appears Almiron at least expects to be named on the bench for the match, although a start could possibly be coming for the 30-year-old.

Another player who has struggled for regular starts this season is midfielder Sean Longstaff. In the last three Premier League games he has played just four minutes, although he did come on for the final 25 minutes of the Carabao Cup win over Arsenal.

Like Almiron, Longstaff has taken to social media to hint that he may be part of the squad for the game against Bromley. On his Instagram story, he has shared a picture of him preparing for the game, along with a caption reading: “Back home tomorrow” and a snowflake emoji.

Should Newcastle overcome Bromley, they won’t have long to wait to find out their opponents in the next round. The fourth round draw takes place on Sunday following the conclusion of another 3pm kick-off between Arsenal and Manchester United.
