Bournemouth issues
Andoni Iraola admits Bournemouth face an uphill battle to recruit a striker capable of filling the void left by injured pair Evanilson and Enes Unal before the transfer window closes. The Cherries are at St James’ Park on Saturday, but the striker duo suffered serious injuries in the space of five days to leave them without a recognised centre forward.
Club-record signing Evanilson is unavailable for the foreseeable future due to a fractured metatarsal, while Unal will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Seventh-placed Bournemouth travel to Chelsea on Tuesday evening for their first Premier League fixture since the loss of the two players.
“I have no idea what’s going to happen,” Iraola told a press conference. “I know the club is working on it but I don’t know. You never know what’s going to happen in the market. “We are trying to sign a striker, this is clear. Everyone in the club is trying to sign a striker.
“We’ve lost this week Enes and Evanilson and it’s not just one, two days (to find a replacement). Strikers are very valuable. I understand that clubs don’t want to lose strikers halfway through the season. And we need a striker at the level to start and play Premier League games, so I know it’s not going to be easy. But everyone at the club is working on this.”
