Potential Jonathan David twist
Lille is are on the verge of completing a deal to sign striker Chuba Akpom from Ajax. The former Middlesbrough forward is set to leave the Dutch giants to join Lille’s bid to qualify for the Champions League again.
It inevitably prompts questions about whether he is a potential replacement for Jonathan David, with the Canadian set to leave in the summer at the end of his current contract. Could Lille be open to bids now? They’ve said not, but the right offer would surely make them think twice given they’ll lose David for nothing in a few months.
Newcastle United – and plenty of other clubs – will be looking on with interest.
