Newcastle’s Greek food legends Acropolis move into new home in city’s ‘coolest’ suburb

It’s one of the city’s most well known and most popular restaurants and now local Greek food legends Acropolis have now opened a new branch in what has been described as Newcastle’s ‘coolest suburb.’

Whether it be from their always busy haunt in the Grainger Market. at St James’ Stack or Stack Seaburn, the Metrocentre in Gateshead, or at a big festival or event, many Geordies have feasted on some delicious Acropolis dishes at least once. They’ve also now also got a big fan in the form of Man vs Food star Adam Richman, who got a taste of the action himself, when he called into the Grainger Market restaurant to film for his new series Adam Richman Eats Football.

The show sees Adam travel to some of the UK’s most famous footballing cities and test out food that supporters and players are fans of. During his visit to Acropolis, Adam, who described Acropolis as ‘the city’s best kept secret’ was let in on the ‘secret’ of the restaurant’s trademark sauce, as well as meeting a mother and son team who make the magic happen.

Well now after their primetime TV fame on the Food Network, Acropolis have another string to their bow, with the opening of a new branch inside Ouseburn Garden, the popular outdoor space a short trip from Newcastle city centre. Ouseburn has been named one of the ‘coolest’ places to live not just in the UK, but the whole world and Acropolis’ arrival in the district will only add to its street cred.

Acropolis caused a real stir last summer when they launched the Geordie Gyro, packed full of tasty ingredients inside a stottie and, opening their doors at the Ouseburn Garden, they have some big things up their sleeves, including a film and food night for Grease this Friday, February 28.

General admission is free, but VIP tickets are also available. Two person VIP Tickets include entry into the movie screening, guaranteed fire pit seating, blankets, an Acropolis sharing platter for two and a drink each. The sharing platter consists of Greek flatbread, chips, salad, sauces and a choice of filling.
