Newcastle’s number 1 charva anthem of ‘all time’ has been decided in a massive radio vote, with a 90s classic coming out on top and beating huge hits by the likes of Scooter, Cascada and Alice Deejay.
Whether we choose to admit it or not, most of us, at one point in our lives, will have had a charva phase, whether it be going out dressed to the nines in your brand spanking new Kappa tracksuit, needing little excuse to pull on a pair of Adidas poppers, or don that essential combo of Berghaus and Rockports.
Then came the music that any self respecting charva would have blasting from the hi-fi in their bedrooms in the 90s or cued up on their iPod Nanos in the 00s. If you know your Toca’s Miracle from your Logical Song, chances are you will have been to at least one of the Charva Choons nights in Newcastle over the last few years.
And it’s the duo at the helm of them, Hits North East hosts Steve and Karen, that launched the vote to find out just what is the region’s top charva anthem. The top 10 was revealed in full on Friday, with Darren Styles – Save Me at 10, as Alice Deejay’s Better Off Alone came in probably lower than expected at 9 and Fragma’s You Are Alive just ahead of it in 8th spot.
Further up the rankings were Fly on The Wings of Love by XTM at 7 and 00s mega smash Everytime We Touch by Cascada in at 6. The top 5 kicked off with Interactive’s Forever Young, a song many Geordies will remember from discos if they went to school in the 90s, with Micky Modelle’s Dancing in the Dark in at 4.
There were some very strong contenders in the final three, with Scooter’s Jumping All Over The World in bronze medal position, Special D’s Come With Me just missing out in runners up spot, leaving Nakatomi’s happy hardcore anthem Children of the Night, a song still played at many birthday parties, weddings and events like Bongo’s Bingo, taking home the title at number 1.
