North East restaurants Pine, Hjem, House of Tides and Solstice retain Michelin Stars for 2025

Four North East restaurants have retained their Michelin Stars for 2025 at a ceremony in Glasgow.

The ceremony at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum saw chefs and hospitality professionals from across the country gather to celebrate the best of British food. During the ceremony, a total of 22 new Michelin One Star awards were presented, five new Michelin Green Stars and three new Michelin Two Stars.

Moor Hall, in Aughton, Lancashire, was the only restaurant to be awarded Michelin Three Stars this year. A further 36 Bib Gourmands were also announced, with a total of 1,147 restaurants deemed good enough to make the tyre company’s annual Guide.

It was a good night for the North East overall, as Restaurant Pine, in East Wallhouses; Restaurant Hjem, in Wall, and Newcastle Quayside’s House of Tides and Solstice by Kenny Atkinson all held onto their Michelin Stars. Restaurant Pine also held onto its Green Star, which is awarded to restaurants recognised as leaders in sustainable practices.

Forge, at Middleton Lodge, near Scotch Corner, was also awarded its first star.

Siân Byerley, co-owner of Restaurant Pine, said: “Every single one of us in the team has worked incredibly hard since we opened the restaurant in what had previously been an old cattle barn. The fact we’ve retained both of our Michelin accolades shows that we’re all still as passionate and dedicated as we were when we started, if not more so.

“There’s no doubt at all that the region is getting well-deserved recognition for the quality of its food offering, driven forward by some hugely talented and passionate people who are determined to make the area one of the premier places to live, work and visit and that makes us all incredibly proud to be playing a small part in that.”

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, said: “I am so thrilled to see that our Great Britain & Ireland Guide has had such a strong year yet again. Despite the challenges they face, chefs and restaurateurs have shown us that their talent, commitment and ingenuity know no bounds.”

As well as the North East retaining its stars, a restaurant within an hour of Newcastle has gained its first. Forge on the Middleton Lodge Estate in North Yorkshire gained a Michelin Star to add to its existing Green Star, with food judges described as “a brilliant showcase of how delicious sustainable gastronomy can be.”

Anyone who wants to sample food prepared by Michelin Star chefs can do so for a fraction of the usual price THIS July as BiteBack returns to Wylam Brewery. Last year’s event, which brought 15 Michelin Star chefs to Newcastle’s Exhibition Park, raised £82,000 for Cancer Research UK.
