There is a lot of celebrating being done in Alnwick this week, as a restaurant in the town with rave reviews and branded ‘the best Indian ever’ by some of its satisfied customers, has taken home one of the top awards of the night at the Nation’s Curry Awards.
After the success of its inaugural ceremony in 2023 and the Scottish Curry Awards, English Curry Awards and the London Curry Awards, the organisers of the Nation’s Curry Awards confirmed last year that the event would be back for 2025, with the finalists announced in November.
And now the team from Mumbai Flavours are the proud owners of the the Indian Restaurant of the Year trophy, bringing it back to Northumberland from a lavish awards do in Blackburn at the start of this week. The Alnwick favourite saw off competition from highly rated rivals from all over the UK to triumph in one of the night’s most hotly contested categories.
And it would be fair to say they are delighted. Sharing photos from the ceremony on the restaurant’s Facebook page, a post read: “WOW! Regional and National winner of Indian Restaurant of the Year. An AMAZING achievement for Salam and Team Mumbai! A MASSIVE thank you to all our customers and friends for your continued support. Very proud moment winning this national award for the restaurant where it all began”
A glance at Trip Advisor and it’s easy to see why Mumbai emerged victorious. The restaurant has a near perfect score of 4.5 out of 5 on the review site, thanks to loads and loads of glowing feedback. A diner who visited just this month writes: “Fantastic meal in the Mumbai. Some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted. The food was great, the service was great and the staff were lovely. Give it a go!”
Going even further by declaring it the ‘best Indian ever’ a second enthuses: “I’m speechless as to how amazing this Indian is in the heart of Alnwick” as another who travelled 50 miles or their meal, raves: “This is the best Indian restaurant I have been to. I wish I lived nearer!”
