Ozuna believes Bad Bunny currently sits atop the throne of Latin music and sees how everyone else in the genre can benefit from his success.
In his interview on Respectfully: The Justin Laboy Show, Ozuna recognized that the artist atop the mountain of Latin music changes every so often. The 33-year-old singer recalled when Ricky Martin had a moment around 1999 and 2000, followed by Daddy Yankee in the mid-2000s and then Wisin & Yandel.
Ozuna said he took up the crown around 2015 and 2016, and now it’s Bad Bunny. While he admitted there is a competitive nature in the music industry, there is no bad blood between himself and Benito, even if their relationship is “not the best” at the moment.
“I don’t got [a] real relationship with him, but I can’t hate him because I don’t have time to hate,” Ozuna said of Bunny, both of whom come from Puerto Rico and roam around in the same circles.
Ozuna feels a sense of pride because he was one of the first popular Latin artists to see Bunny’s potential.
“Of course because I was the first artist [to] collab with Bad Bunny was in ‘Diles,'” he said. “I’m happy for that.”
Ozuna also considers Bad Bunny’s popularity to be a situation where a rising tide lifts all boats, saying Benito’s success is “good for me…That’s good for my music.”
