If you’re after a drop of real ale and a good night out without having to venture into town you’re in luck as Newcastle has a brand new micropub that has proved a real hit in its first week of business.
Newcastle has some great micropubs in and around the city centre, with the likes of the Mean Eyed Cat and Wobbly Duck proving very popular and now Heaton has a new one – The Tiny Toad – which opened at the end of last week on Warton Terrace, not far away from the busy Chillingham Road, which is home to the likes of highly rated restaurant Nest and recently opened 5D cinema Eatflix.
The building Tiny Toad has gone into is no stranger to a boozer, as it was the former home of the Heaton Tap, which closed in December after six successful years, in which it was named North East Pub of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood (SPBW). The venue became the first micropub in Heaton, followed by The Tipsy Toad which opened on Heaton Road in September 2019.
And just like The Tiny Toad building is well versed in serving top quality drinks, its owner Darrin Williams also has the golden touch when it comes to pubs, as he is also in charge of much loved haunt The Tipsy Toad. Ahead of opening day at the end of January, he worked had to put his stamp on the bar, with its undergoing a makeover and refurb before opening its doors to the public.
Darrin has a simple mission statement for his new venue – he wants The Tiny Toad, open seven days a week, to be somewhere that people can come for a good pint and a good time and, based on how much interest the new micropub has had already, it looks like he’s fulfilling his aim to great success.
