It’s a restaurant that earned a big fan in multi award-winning actress Jodie Comer and now one of Northumberland‘s finest restaurants, with food just as amazing as its views, is celebrating after retaining its Michelin star for 2025.
You only have to look at the rave Pine has received and has continued to receive from everyone who’d dined there to see just why Jodie also became such an admirer, after her visit last year. Set in a cow barn at Vallum Farm, with Hadrian’s Wall very much on the horizon, Pine is the creation of Cal Byerley and partner Siân Buchan and has served up impeccable food, ranging from a classic afternoon teas to a sumptuous tasting menu, since first opening its doors in 2021.
A household name thanks to her roles in the likes of Doctor Foster, where she felt the wrath of Suranne Jones’s character for being ‘the other woman’, Killing Eve and Help; Jodie, who impressively has a BAFTA, Emmy, Olivier and Tony Award to her name, was in the North East in the summer to shoot Danny Boyle’s new blockbuster 28 Years Later.
And when she wasn’t busy trying to escape menacing zombies in Rothbury and the Northumberland wilds, Jodie found the time to pay a visit to Pine., who last year made the world’s top 1,000 restaurants, with staff delighted that she chose the restaurant to dine at.
And now, after already having a great start to 2025, thanks to being included on a list of the best restaurants in the UK, by SquareMeal, Pine, along with its Northumberland neighbour, Restaurant Hjem, in Wall, also on the best in the UK list, has retained its Michelin star, with the 2025 list of accolades released early on Tuesday morning, following a ceremony in Glasgow on Monday evening.

There was also delight elsewhere in the North East as well, with Newcastle Quayside’s House of Tides and Solstice by Kenny Atkinson, also retaining their stars.
Last month, Pine announced a 2025 return for its BiteBack festival, which brought together 15 Michelin star chefs in Newcastle for a unique cooking experience at Wylam Brewery last year and raised a tremendous £82,000 for Cancer Research.
