Sam Fender’s Newcastle United win verdict on emotional ‘best day ever’

Geordie music icon Sam Fender has said Newcastle United winning the Carabao Cup is the “best day ever”.

The North Shields singer is on his worldwide ‘People Watching’ tour and is playing in Berlin tonight. He posted earlier in the day saying he had “already got emotional” and had “shed some tears” – hours before kick-off.

Newcastle United headed to Wembley as underdogs to a Liverpool side top of the Premier League. However, goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak saw the Toon win their first domestic silverware in 70 years.

Sam will have been desperately disappointed not to be among the Geordie faithful at Wembley to witness the historic occasion. After the final whistle, the Seventeen Going Under singer took to his Instagram saying it was the “best day ever”.

The 30-year-old said: “Best day ever. We deserved it. 70 years. The clock has been reset. Howay the Lads.”

He then posted a further video of the Newcastle team lifting the Carabao Cup and he can be heard in the background getting emotional yet again, stating: “That’s me gone again.”

Sam was certainly not the only one getting emotional. As the full-time whistle went at Wembley, grown men could be seen hugging family, friends and even strangers after 70 years of heartache was brought to an end.

While Sam is gearing up for his concert in the German capital, Newcastle United fans will be partying the night away in London and Newcastle.
