It took Sandro Tonali very little time to establish himself as a fan favourite at St. James’ Park after joining Newcastle United from AC Milan back in 2023. Just six minutes into his Magpies’ debut he’d find the back of the net in a 5-1 win over Aston Villa and it took very little time for a chant to surface on the terraces.
His ban from football last season may have limited his game time on the pitch, but the black and white faithful showed their support from the stands and the Italian midfielder has shown this season why the Magpies were keen to spend a reported £55million on him.
It was on his debut that Newcastle fans showed their support for their new signing, with a chant based on Los Lobos’ cult classic ‘La Bamba’, bellowing from the stands. But what are the words? Fear not, Chronicle Live has you covered if you don’t know them…

It’s not the only chant the Italian international has from the Toon Army. It was during his aforementioned ban from football that the Newcastle faithful came up with a new chant to show their support, this time to the tune of Dutch carnival anthem Links Rechts. So, how does that one go?

Speaking after his return to football, Tonali thanked the Newcastle United supporters for their support during his ban.
“The feeling was very good because the fans were crazy after the first game,” he told Sky Sports. “After the second game, the same for Bruno and for Joe because they supported me every day during the ban.
“They were the two players with Tripps and Jamaal [Lascelles], who were the best players for supporting me but every player and all the team did, which was a surprise for me because I was only here two months. I was thinking, ‘Oh no. Now it’s so difficult.’ But everyone in this city, who work and live in Newcastle, have supported me and helped me.”
