There were delays of up to 45 minutes this morning on the A19 northbound just after Murton Interchange following a six-vehicle collision.
Durham Constabulary received reports of a collision on the A19 northbound shortly after 8am this morning.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, National Highways North East told drivers to expect delays. The post said: “The A19 northbound has 1 lane (of 2) closed between A182 (Murton) and A1018 (SeahamGrange) due to a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services are on scene dealing with the incident. Delays are approx. 45 minutes with 4 miles of congestion on approach.”
And then, just after 9am this morning, Durham Constabulary confirmed there had been a six-vehicle collision.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “Officers were called to a six-vehicle collision on the A19 Northbound just after the Murton turnoff just before 8am this morning.
“Emergency services attended but it is not thought there were any injuries and the vehicles are now being recovered.”
At the time of writing, the road remains blocked and traffic is still queueing.
