Stacey Solomon supports Sort Your Life Out family after ‘absolutely heartbreaking’ story

Stacey Solomon was quick to offer her support to her co-stars on Sort Your Life Out after they shared their heartbreaking family story.

The new season of Sort Your Life Out kicked off on Tuesday night (February 11) with Stacey Solomon and the team meeting the Appleyard family in Sussex to assist them in decluttering their home.

Phil and Helen, along with their four children – a 14 year old daughter and 12-year-old triplets – were revealed to have over 2,000 greeting cards, 74 Christmas pinecones, and 99 odd socks in their possession.

However, it was during a visit to the clothing section that Stacey uncovered their tragic past. Holding up a hoodie, Helen explained why she couldn’t part with it, revealing that she wore it when she had her daughter Eleanor.

She shared: “Eleanor is the baby number two. We had a miscarriage at 12 weeks and then I went on to have Eleanor. So, we got past the 20-week mark and then I lost some movement, so they sent me for a scan.

“We lay in the scan room and heard the words that you never, ever, want to hear, ‘your baby has no heartbeat'”.

Overwhelmed by emotion, Helen recounted the painful experience to Stacey. In a separate clip, she described the ordeal as ‘horrific’, expressing gratitude for having her husband by her side, reports the Manchester Evening News.

As Phil shared his perspective on camera, he broke down, admitting: “I didn’t think that was going to hit me then. Sorry. “

The family’s journey through heartache continued as Helen recounted to Stacey in the warehouse about their loss of another baby at 19 weeks, who they had named Levi.

Stacey responded with empathy, saying: “I’m so sorry, absolutely heartbreaking and I can totally understand why this would mean so much to you.”

Helen admitted she couldn’t bear to wear the particular item of clothing, but also couldn’t bring herself to let it go. Meanwhile, away from the couple, Stacey shared her desire to do something special for Helen and Phil.

On the show, the BBC presenter crafted a heartfelt tribute by pinning family photos of the children onto a piece of driftwood the family discovered at Brighton Beach.

Placed sentimentally above the couple’s new bed, the gesture did not go unnoticed by Helen, who was instantly moved by the thoughtful surprise.

Stacey opened up about her intention, remarking: “I wanted to celebrate all of your children.” When Helen pointed out the picture, she noticed: “And there’s Eleanor.”

As the episode wrapped up, the joy on the family’s faces was apparent; they were overjoyed with their newly organised home.

A tearful Helen expressed deep gratitude to the team: “Just to have this happen for us as a family is just beautiful and it means so much more than just the declutter. It’s also the memory journey, repurposing stuff and letting go of things that doesn’t define us.”

Sort Your Life Out is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
