Strictly Come Dancing fans spotted the heartwarming reaction of Chris McCausland’s fellow finalists to his win on Saturday night (14 December). The comedian, 47, and his professional dancer partner Dianne Buswell captivated the nation’s hearts during their Strictly journey and made history when they lifted the coveted glitterball trophy. Chris said “anything can happen” with support and determination after he became the first blind contestant to win the show.
The pair triumphed over tough competition from three other couples in what fans have hailed as one of the greatest Strictly finals of all time – including Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola, Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec, and JB Gill and Lauren Oakley. While Chris finished bottom of the leaderboard, he secured the public vote as hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman revealed him as this year’s champion.

In a display of good sportsmanship, the other contestants swarmed to congratulate Chris and Dianne following the announcement. Fans taking to X, formerly Twitter, couldn’t help but be charmed by Vito’s overjoyed reaction to passing on the crown to the new winners, reports the Liverpool Echo.
One viewer tweeted: “How can you not love Vito, I mean he is the human equivalent to a Golden Retriever, he was happier for Chris and Dianne than I think Chris and Dianne were.” A second chimed in: “I also love how genuinely happy the other finalists were for Chris and Dianne. Like did you see how Vito was literally bouncing in the air.”
Chris was visibly moved as he celebrated his Strictly victory, paying homage to his dance partner with heartfelt words. He shared: “It’s astonishing. I don’t know what to say. I honestly thought I could go out in the first week or two. I know nobody could go out in the first week but I still though I could.
“We’ve just lasted and lasted. She has got so much out of me and she deserves this so much. Everyday, she is positivity, she is belief and she is one of the easiest people to be funny with that I’ve ever met.”

He continued: “Unless she changes her number, she’s stuck with me. This is for her and this is for everyone out there who got told they couldn’t do something or thought they couldn’t do something. With opportunity, support and determination, anything can happen.”
Dianne echoed the sentiment, emphasising their partnership: “Chris said this is for me, but this is not for me. This is for me and you Chris. This is for both of us. We did it.”
Fans on social media were quick to express their joy as one shared: “Well that was emotional! ! Literally crying watching #Strictly tonight. Congratulations Chris and Dianne – so well deserved.” Another praised the winners: “What Chris and Dianne have achieved can’t be overstated. They blew me away every week. I just wish I’d put more than 50p each way on them to win.”
A third said: “Crying so much for Chris and Dianne I cannot believe it so special Dianne winning with all her family in the audience.” Meanwhile, another also expressed their joy: “So happy Chris and Dianne won. What an incredible final.”
