Sunday Brunch host and MasterChef champion announced for County Durham food festival

A Sunday Brunch host, MasterChef champion, and social media baker are among the celebrity chefs appearing at a popular County Durham food festival.

Bishop Auckland Food Festival has become a staple of the county’s events calendar and returns once again in April. Across a weekend, visitors can sample food and drink more more than 140 independent traders and get involved with events and cooking demonstrations involving celebrity chefs.

Last year’s festival saw cooking demonstrations from Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt and Cyrus Todiwala. And this year, it’ll be another weekend cooking show star headlining, with Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer taking to the stage on Saturday.

Guests may also recognise Rimmer from Trickets of the Restaurant Trade; Something for the Weekend; Win It, Cook It; Breaking into Tesco’s and Eat The Week. As well as his television work, Simon hosted the podcast Grilling and has restaurants in the North West of England and Dubai.

Also on the stage on Saturday is food writer, photographer and blogger Jane Dunn, who has amassed more than 2.5 million followers across social media for Jane’s Patisserie. Her first book, Jane’s Patisserie, became the fastest selling baking book and she has gone on to publish follow ups.

Rounding off the Saturday line-up is vet-turned chef Brin Pirathapan, who was crowned MasterChef champion in 2024. Simon, Jane and Brin will be joined by TV presenter Chris Bavin, who returns as host.

Coun Elizabeth Scott of Durham County Council said: “Not only does it attract thousands of people to the town across the weekend, but it also gives our appearing traders and local businesses the opportunity to benefit from the increased footfall and grow their customer base. We know many people look forward to our food festivals, so we’re excited to kick off the countdown to Bishop Auckland’s with the announcement of our first line up of celebrity chefs.”

The Bishop Auckland Food Festival returns to the North East on Saturday April 12 and Sunday April 13.
