Sunderland foodies have braved the wintry weather to try some of the treats on offer at the first food market held at the Sheepfolds Stables.
The very first Sheepfolds Food Market has been taking place on Sunday and the free event had all sorts of delicious cuisines on offer. Those heading to the venue can already get a pie at Si King’s venture PROPA! and several other eateries.
Taking place on the second Sunday of every month, a range of independent traders and producers will have stalls at the venue’s courtyard and indoor event spaces – offering everything from artisan food and drink to locally-produced crafts.
The idea for a regular Sunday market at the site, which dates back to 1884, came during December’s bad weather and gale force winds, when organisers We Are Local Heroes were faced with the possibility of cancelling the last Sunniside event of 2024.
However, Sheepfolds Stables “came to the rescue” by offering their space, and it proved to be successful for traders and visitors alike.
