If you fancy tucking into a meal as big as your appetite this festive season, you might want to head to a pub in the Sunderland area, after it’s been declared the ‘winner of Christmas 2024′ for its absolutely massive loaded roast potatoes creation.
Even those among us who’ve been trying ‘to be good’ and count the calories over the year, can be easily swayed to put the diet on hold for at least a few days, to eat, drink and be merry over Christmas and a pub in Houghton-le-Spring has definitely delivered the goods when it comes to an opportunity to over indulge, with a dish that looks delicious but also a big challenge.
Popular haunt The Beehive has been attracting plenty of shares and comments since posting a photo of its loaded roast potatoes, which looks a lot more like a full Christmas dinner rather than a side. As well as getting as generous helping of roasties, the thing many people think is the best thing about their dinner on December 25, the plate is packed full of other foods, with the beef dripping potatoes topped with shredded turkey crown, Cumberland sausage stuffing, massive pigs in blankets, cranberry, rich stock gravy, crispy onions and a sizeable Yorkshire pudding.
The pub themselves described the dish as ‘absolutely unreal’ and the responses they’ve received would suggest that diners feel the same. Responding to the Facebook post, one of the page’s followers wrote: “That looks absolutely delicious” as, tagging their friend in, another commented: these looks ridiculous!”
