One popular confectionary has been the staple of one holiday in particular, Terry’s Chocolate Orange. They’re seeking to take over another holiday in 2025 with their new Easter selection.
Their newest egg-speriment was officially announced last week, though there had been sightings on shelves over a month ago, just weeks after their Christmas run of chocolate oranges ended. This time, they’re challenging chocolate champions Cadbury in an arena they’re very familiar in.
The egg has an orange cream filling, with a textured exterior to resemble an orange to match the wrapper. They are very directly going against the Cadbury Creme Egg, one of the most popular Easter chocolates each year, selling on average 200 million each year.
It seems as though Terry’s are coming for the crown, as many online have said how scarce they are in the shops already. Prices range from 65-75p depending on where you shop, if they haven’t all been snatched up at least.
Shops they’ve been spotted in include Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Co-op, Waitrose, Iceland, B&M and Poundland.
Many are saying that the new addition is “better than the original” with the soft, truffle-like cream centre. Terry’s advise that if you’d prefer a more gooey centre, leaving it at room temperature, or even sticking it in your pocket will soften it up.
Ironically, it prompts the question: do you prefer your eggs runny or hard?
The shell is dark chocolate, which compliments the orange flavouring nicely, but may be a bit too bitter for some palettes. It also has similar branding as the wrapper, making it appear like the citrus it’s emulating.
The crown of the Cadbury Creme Egg could be slipping this Easter judging by the reaction from the public.
