The 5 star rated Northumberland butchers that has TV legends and United stars flocking

If you pop for some meat or a few pies at a certain butchers in Northumberland, you might well end up standing at the counter next to a TV legend or Premier League footballer as it has attracted its fair share of famous customers over the last few years.

A big hit for its Newcastle United themed produce and pork pie wedding cakes, Turnbull’s Northumbrian Food Hall has become one of THE places to visit for anyone in the vicinity of Alnwick, with staff left gobsmacked last summer when American entertainment icon Henry Winkler, famous the world over for playing Fonz in classic sitcom Happy Days, called in on his way up to Edinburgh for a date on his UK tour.

He picked up a number of items from the butchers, before shocked staff member Deborah Willis recognised him and went over to reveal that she shares the same birthday as him, October 30th. Delighted to have him in store, Turnbull’s Northumbrian Food’s sales and marketing manager, Matthew Slack told ChronicleLive: “The Food Hall was a buzz with the usual lunchtime rush and he even took the time to speak to customers in the queue to be served. He was very patient and spoke to everyone who greeted him in-store. We’d like to thank whoever Henry’s mutual friend is for the recommendation that he stop by the home of Northumbrian Food on his travels!”

There was also excitement for staff just a few months after that, in August 2024, when Newcastle United defender Dan Burn called in to Turnbull’s to cast an eye over a full NUFC themed menu that had just gone on sale at the time. Staff member and huge Magpies fan Alex just happened to be working when Dan visited and managed to grab a selfie with the player, which has was then widely shared on social media. Alex, as well as being taken aback by just how tall BDB was, also revealed how he’d showed off some of the Newcastle themed foods to Dan, who took a few photos on his phone and said he’d send them on to his teammates,

As well as having a few famous customers, Turnbull’s also has plenty of glowing reviews online, with a near perfect score on Trip Advisor and an ever growing number of 5 star reviews on Facebook, including one from a customer who wrote: “The best shop ever! We have been coming pretty much every Sunday since the Foodhall opened. No complaints about anything from here- just compliments all around. The best cheese scones ever. Plus the best staff ever!! They are all so friendly and lovely to talk to. Very happy customers”
