While its just over nine miles away from the bright lights of town, a Cullercoats Christmas window has been likened to the one at famous Newcastle department store Fenwick’s, with some people declaring it’s even better.
While not going quite as long as Fenwick, who have been spreading festive cheer with their Christmas displays for well over 50 years now, Vain hairdressers, on St George’s Road in Cullercoats has earned itself a fine reputation for also sprinkling its own brand of Christmas magic, by installing a model village in its windows every single year without fail, even doing one at the height of the Covid pandemic in 2020.
And, while it might get the same level of attention as the Fenwick’s Window reveal does every year, Vain had plenty of people attend the launch of this year’s display, which also coincided with the 15th anniversary of the salon opening. A glance at this year’s window at Vain reveals there are little models of everything from the instantly recognisable red Coca Cola truck to the Angel of the North.
Other items spotted in the eye-catching display include an array of Christmas trees, including one adorned with candy canes and a huge water wheel with the words Vain Village on it. Vain posted about the display on Facebook after its unveiling at the start of December, with one customer calling it “fantastic” as another commented: “wonderful as always.”
Vain’s window reveal for 2024 came a month after the curtain dropped on Fenwick’s display, which, this year is a reimagining of the Twelves Days of Christmas has received plenty of positive feedback, with some happy customers claiming its the best display the Northumberland Street store has done for a number of years.
