The Apprentice bosses ‘pause filming’ as Lord Sugar rushes to help ill candidate

The filming of BBC’s The Apprentice was covertly put on hold during the current series when a contestant, Nadia Suliaman, fell ill. Nadia, who was the most recent to be shown the door on Thursday night’s episode, became unwell in the boardroom, prompting showrunners to intervene.

This occurred after the contestants had been working on the virtual pop star tasks, which saw their characters go viral for all the wrong, cringe-worthy reasons. Nadia had been under the weather leading up to the task, but her condition worsened as they entered the high-pressure boardroom.

Nadia’s persistent coughing disrupted filming with Lord Sugar, Baroness Brady and Tim Campbell, leading producers to hit pause early in the series. Speaking to The Sun about the incident, Nadia shared that she became “quite ill in episode two.”

She explained: “I was coughing so much that I was like splattering and they had to stop production because you know I was ill.”

Despite Lord Sugar’s harsh approach towards Nadia in Thursday’s boardroom, she revealed his thoughtful off-camera gesture, reports the Mirror.

Nadia had one of the quickest firings in the show’s history

“This is such a kind thing but it just stuck with me. Lord Sugar just like threw across the table a throat lozenge to me,” she told the publication. But it wasn’t just Lord Sugar showing concern; Baroness Brady also offered her a tissue.

Thursday night’s episode saw a dramatic turn of events as Nadia faced one of the ‘quickest firings ever’ from the show, after her stint as project manager failed to rake in profits. The task at hand was to transform potatoes or tomatoes into a profitable dish for sale to both the public and a corporate client.

Nadia’s team attempted to sell an overpriced sausage and mash dish, which led to a £73.40 loss and ultimately her downfall. Lord Sugar showed no mercy, dismissing her promptly even after she had the option to bring two colleagues back into the boardroom.

Reflecting on her abrupt exit with the Mirror, Nadia expressed feeling “sad” about how she was portrayed, noting that the edit didn’t cast her in the best light. She questioned the harshness of her portrayal, saying: “No. I’ve got to be honest, I was a bit gutted. I was like, whoa, everything is quite bad towards me.”

Seeking validation, Nadia asked fellow contestants if she was ‘really that bad’, to which they comforted her by highlighting her motivational skills and necessary strictness in the kitchen due to time pressures.

They reassured her: “Oh no, you were so good at motivating us, you were militant in the kitchen because you had to, we were up against time constraints as well.”
