If you aren’t one of the tens of thousands of Newcastle fans who are heading down to London for the Carabao Cup final, never fear as they are plenty of places to watch the big game back on home turf.
Five weeks have now passed since United secured their place at Wembley, thanks to two 2-0 wins over Arsenal in the semi final and in the days and weeks that followed the second leg at St James’ Park, those fans who haven’t got their hands on a ticket for the match or aren’t travelling down to London just to revel in the atmosphere, have turned their thoughts to where they’ll watch the game in town.
Just like the NUFC end of Wembley, Newcastle city centre is set to become a sea of black and white on Sunday as supporters in the Toon cheer on their team to hopefully end a 70 year trophy drought. As soon as the final whistle blew at SJP on February 5,. some fan zones, having gingerly put pans in place after the 2-0 win in the first leg, put tickets on sale, with Times Square selling out by lunchtime the next day.
Since then, the city’s ‘biggest ever’ fan zone has been announced, as many bars and pubs in the city have revealed what they’ll be doing for the final. so, if you still aren’t sorted with where to go and watch it on Sunday, here is a our roundup of the best places to check out:
Best places to watch Carabao Cup final in Newcastle
Utilita Arena Fan Zone
There are still a few tickets left on Fatsoma for the biggest fan zone Newcastle has ever seen. With a capacity for 5,000 people, a dedicated family area, a number of different bars and VIP options, as well as pre and post match entertainment, there is sure to be an epic atmosphere round the back of the arena on Sunday.
St James’ STACK
The hugely popular city centre venue has teamed up with JD Sports for Carabao Cup final weekend, with it getting a bit of a makeover for the occasion, with JD branding going up, as giveaways are promised throughout the day on Sunday.
Doors will open at St James’ STACK at 10am with FREE entry and you’ll want to get down early as it looks set to be packed very quickly. The pre-match entertainment starts at 1pm, with a range of competitions on stage including football top trumps and giveaways.Then at 2pm the venue will host a performance by The Belta Reivers, followed by an appearance by a surprise Newcastle United legend.

Football freestyler Ross Brown will showcase his football skills at 3pm, with The Belta Reivers back on stage at 3.15pm, with a performance including the iconic Wor Flags and pyrotechnics. At 4pm the big screen will switch to pre-match commentary, before the game gets underway.
Domain @ Northumbria University
Like all the other places on the list, Northumbria Uni has also been packed to the rafters for big occasions in the last few years and has now revealed its plans for March 16.
As well as a 10ft x 7ft screen and VIP balcony seating, fans are being promised pre and most match entertainment, drinks deals and flag displays.
All first release tickets have now sold out, with final release tickets priced £16.50 and available online from Gigantic.
The Strawberry
This one goes without saying. given it is a match day must for United fans and even sells its own branded black and white scarves. Fresh from having a bit of a makeover, thanks to a striking mural being painted on its outside walls, The Strawberry will be rammed on Sunday.
The Wonder Bar
Always a popular destination on match days, The Gate bar will also be operating a walk-ins only policy on Sunday, to give everyone a chance to get a good seat.
There will also be pre and post match entertainment.
The Mayfair
Just along from The Gate and the place that used to be Sam Jacks, The Mayfair has established itself as a big favourite of footy fans, since opening its doors in 2019.
Always rammed for occasions like the Euros and World Cup, all tables to be in the upstairs lounge on Sunday were quickly booked up, but all of the big downstairs bar will be walk-ins only on Sunday, with no reservations required and no door charge.
Filthy’s, Passing Clouds and The Points
All three Bigg Market bars will be open on Sunday, promising five big screens to watch the match on, free entry and live music before kick off and after the final whistle.
The Magpie
If you’re after some serious Geordie vibes for the big game, you don’t need to look any further than the Newcastle themed pub which opened in town last year, going into the same building that was The Goose for years.

Like most of the other places on our list, entry to The Magpies will be free on Sunday, with no bookings needed – but be sure to get down early to bad the best seats in the house.
The Old George
One of Newcastle’s oldest and most popular pubs has always been a great place to watch the football, whether it be Newcastle or England and it is opening up at 10am on Sunday, giving people plenty of time to secure their spot in front of one of the many screens.
The kitchen will also be open as soon as the pub does, with breakfasts on the go to help people line their stomachs.
The Centurion
A place that always boasts of having one of if not THE biggest screen in the city, as well as having an absolutely stunning ceiling, the Central Station pub is the handiest for anyone getting the Metro into town on Sunday.
Alfiie’s
The bar just outside the city centre and also conveniently a short walk from Manors Metro, will have the game on its huge projector screen on Sunday, as well as on TVs around the venue. Tickets from £2.50 are available from Fatsoma.
