The Masked Singer has unveiled the latest celebrity behind the mask after Bear was given the boot and sent packing on Saturday night in the first part of a double elimination. The semi-final kicked off with five characters vying for just three spots in the final on Saturday 15 February.
Bush, Dressed Crab, Wolf, Pufferfish and Bear all belted out tunes for the audience and judges, but ultimately it was Bear who received the least votes and had to unmask. Judges Jonathan Ross, Richard E Grant, Davina McCall and Maya Jama were taken aback to find out that it was Example who had been entertaining them over the past few weeks, and had impressed the crowd with his rendition of Charles Aznavour’s classic She in the semi-final. “It’s been great,” he said after he took off his bear mask.

Last week, fans were left stunned when there was a double elimination and Kingfisher and Snail’s identities were revealed. Kingfisher turned out to be artist Grayson Perry, while Snail was unmasked as singer Andrea Corr. Grayson told host Joel Dommett he was “gutted” to leave the competition.
“I was gutted when I got knocked out. I had two really lovely songs lined up for next week. I was going to sing Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins and there wouldn’t have been a dry eye in the place! I’d already been practising. I could hardly get through without blubbing. And then I was going to do Stick Season by Noah Kahan. That’s a great song. Lots of words though. Very hard to learn but I had it nailed and I was really looking forward to it,” reports the Mirror.
Celebrities often express their sadness when they exit the show earlier than hoped, having missed out on performing all their planned numbers. TV favourite Mel Giedroyc, who was recently unmasked as the character Teeth, opened up: “I just feel it’s a win-win. I didn’t think I’d get this far, I think I’ve got over half way which is great! It’s been so fun. I feel really elated actually. I blooming loved it. I’m sad because my next song was Pointer Sisters’ Automatic done as Marlene Dietrich. That would have been fun.”
She continued with enthusiasm: “Listen, if you told me you’re going to have a chance to sing the Neighbours theme tune dressed as an enormous pair of wind up teeth with pink tights and big pink flapping feet, I would say I could stop my career now. For me that is the pinnacle!”
Others who’ve had their disguises lifted this series include culinary queen Prue Leith as Pegasus, broadcasting star Kate Garraway who turned out to be Spaghetti Bolognese, T’Pau’s lead vocalist Carol Decker as Tattoo, and the iconic Macy Gray who played Toad In The Hole. Going back to the Christmas special, none other than Mo Farah was the celebrity under the Giant Joel Dommett disguise.
