This week is set to see a flurry of winter woollies on display adorned with the likes of giant snowmen and sparkling lights as Christmas Jumper Day makes its annual return.
This Thursday, December 12 is the designated day which traditionally raises money for charity and Save the Children encourages people to don their most festive jumper and make a £2 donation to the charity. For those wanting something a bit different to the usual, a popular clothing company, which each year launches new additions to its range of Christmas jumpers, has come up with more unique ideas.
And these offer another chance to boost a good cause because the online retailer will be donating 50% of proceeds from sales to another children’s charity. The company notjust, which also has a popular Greggs Christmas jumper in its range, is a social enterprise which always makes charitable donations of profits from every jumper sold.
This year it is supporting a children’s hospice down south and it is out to tempt buyers with a well-timed Traitors theme Christmas hooded jumper as well as a new recreation of a festive design showing The Snowman which David Bowie wore. The style of the first echoes the hood of the cloaks worn by the ‘traitors’ in the hit BBC series, the challenge show involving members of the public which is set to return to the screen for a third series from January 1.
Besides its hood, this new jumper – in gold and black – includes motifs from the show, such as the Round Table where the contestants confront each other and the ‘faithfuls’ attempt to root out the traitors to beat them to he prize money pot. The jumper covers all bases for fans, with ‘The Traitors’ being written on the front and ‘Come All Ye Faithfuls’ on the back.
The company says the official jumper celebrates the return of what it calls ‘the nation’s favourite and most thrilling entertainment show which is making a comeback for its third season this winter’ and it adds the £45.99 buy could ‘steal the show at the Christmas party this year’.
Among other options set to be a talking point is the retro Fair Isle-pattern jumper style worn by Bowie in an eighties video to introduce the first broadcast of The Snowman in America. In the video, the late music star talks about the animation based upon Raymond Briggs’ famous festive story and is also seen digging out a scarf in his attic.
The notjust’s Christmas range includes both the pastel-colour jumper and the scarf, which are created under licence making them official. Since the company started out in 2017, it has raised more than £100,000 for various good causes and this year’s chosen charity is apparently one which had author Briggs as a patron.
Its new Bowie-inspired Christmas jumper is £39.99 and the scarf is £19.99. There are other jumpers for sale featuring The Snowman, in both children’s and adult’s sizes, costing £29.99 and £39.99 respectively, and there’s a blanket too.
All are quality knits, ethically and sustainably produced and made in Manchester in a time-consuming process which involves intricate weaving. Even the packaging is completely biodegradable.
Other themes in its Christmas jumper range include returning favourites Greggs alongside food brands Marmite, Pot Noodle and Colman’s plus the likes of ‘David Attenbrr’ and Peaky Blinders designs. For the full range, which starts at £9.99, and to order see the notjustclothing website.
