The Traitors makes ‘quiet change’ to applications for fourth series as fans left confused

Fans of The Traitors have been left scratching their heads after the application deadline for the show’s fourth series was unexpectedly extended. Earlier this year, viewers were gripped by the third series, which saw Faithful contestants Leanne and Jake take home the win.

In a thrilling finale hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the duo decided to eliminate Alexander and Frankie, unaware that they too were Faithful. Leanne and Jake ultimately triumphed, sharing the hefty prize pot of £94,600, meaning each pocketed a cool £47,300. Witnessing the massive win, fans were eager to join the BBC show as it announced applications for the next series. The fourth series is predicted to air in early 2026, with filming commencing later this year.

When the final aired on January 24, fans had less than a month to submit their applications, with the deadline set for the beginning of February. However, eagle-eyed fans on X, previously known as Twitter, noticed that the closing date had been ‘quietly extended’, reports the Mirror.

“Applications for #TheTraitors Series 4 have been extended to March 28th,” a fan page revealed. The date has also been updated on the official application page.

Some fans were thrilled at the extension, with one writing: “Thank god. My application crashed as I was. Finishing up,” while another chimed in: “There was me rushing.”

Others questioned why the date had been pushed back, asking: “Why is that? Thought they’d hv no shortage of applications and stuff! “.

The BBC finally put the rumours to rest by confirming an “unmissable” celebrity edition of The Traitors is on the horizon, with the big reveal made at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on Thursday, August 22. Fans can look forward to a nine-part extravaganza set to grace our screens via BBC and iPlayer, following hot on the heels of season 3.

Mike Cotton, the creative mastermind at Studio Lambert and Executive Producer for The Traitors, couldn’t contain his excitement: “We are thrilled to be inviting some celebrities into our castle to come and play the game. Seeing famous faces navigate the round table or don the infamous green cloaks will be unmissable TV, and what a double treat for the fans with Series 4 also confirmed too. There’s a whole lot of exciting treachery and deception yet to come from the Highlands… Claudia’s going to have to pack some extra knitwear.”

While we’re all on tenterhooks, the release date remains under wraps, but whispers suggest the series will make debut in the latter half of 2025.
