Dropping “hardcore” smoking after 10 years did more bad than good for Tish Cyrus.
While in conversation with her eldest daughter, Brandi, on the latest episode of podcast Sorry We’re Cyrus, Tish, who’s also mother to Miley and Noah Cyrus, gave an update on going cold turkey from marijuana. But after seven months of non-smoking, the 57-year-old has been dealing with “anxiety.”
“It was kind of by accident that I stopped smoking,” Tish said around the 1:30-minute mark of the podcast below. “I went on vacation, and it was somewhere I could not have pot, and, like, three days in, [I] had the worst anxiety I’ve ever had in my life. And when I tried to smoke again… Nope.”
When the episode’s guests, electronic DJ group Cheat Codes, congratulated Tish on seven months without smoking, she stressed that she’s been having “so much anxiety.” When she does light up, marijuana just so happens to make her anxiety “even worse,” and that’s she’s “so afraid” to resume smoking.
“I smoked pretty hardcore for like, 10 years,” she continued.
Around the 5:30-minute mark, Tish added that the last seven months have been “so bad” for her. “Like, major anxiety,” she continued. “It really did just help me in so many ways. And lately I just have not been OK.”
In 2021, Tish told former E! show Daily Pop that she began smoking in her 40s after Miley’s tour bus caught on fire while they were en route to New Orleans. She’d initially tried Ambien, although she “hated” the prescription medicine.
“That’s actually how I started smoking,” Tish told the outlet. “Miley said, ‘Mom, why are you putting a chemical in your body that makes you feel so bad the next day?'”
The podcast was originally launched as Sorry We’re Stoned in 2020, before Tish and Brandi rebranded in October, as Tish hadn’t smoked in five months.
