Lauren Goodger seems to be living her best life right now and is totally smashing it upon her much-anticipated return, eight years later, to the show that made her a star – TOWIE.
However, there is one thing this Essex girl wishes didn’t keep happening. According to a source close to Lauren, she is ‘fed up’ with people dragging up her past with Mark Wright, following her hugely popular return to the show. She’s moved on a long time ago, they say – and believes it’s high time everyone else followed suit.
Lauren made her dramatic comeback to the latest series of The Only Way Is Essex more than a decade on from becoming a household name on the very first season.
And viewers who watched Lauren, now 37, in her first scenes on the Essex show will remember her rollercoaster relationship with Mark, also now 37 – these days, happily married to Fool Me Once star, Michelle Keegan.
The former couple were childhood sweethearts, who met at the tender age of just 15, and dated on and off for ten years before finally splitting in 2012.
Lauren previously compared the pair’s ill-fated relationship to that of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, saying, “It’s annoying getting dragged into my ex’s life, but I understand it’s a massive part of where we started…
“It’s like other people in the public eye, like Brad and Jennifer. I get it, but it goes over my head now.”
But the source claims that it remains very ‘frustrating’ for the star that people are still talking about her and Mark – a relationship which is for her very old news – and not the only meaningful one that meant something to her during her years on the show.
The source also told that Lauren is embracing an exciting new phase in her life with TOWIE and just wants to move on.
She recently opened up to fellow OG cast member Amy Childs in a recent scene about how she’d got rid of an intimate tattoo she had of Mark’s name – but even then, only because her close friend brought it up.
“Lauren is loving her time on TOWIE. It’s nice to not be involved in all the drama and not have to be in a relationship on the show. She can just be herself and have some fun.”
The TV star, who is mum to daughter Larose, 2, whom she shares with her ex, has had an unimaginably tough couple of years, but is finally coming out the other side. Lauren gave birth to her second daughter, Lorena, in July 2022.
However, despite having a ‘textbook’ pregnancy and labour, Lorena tragically passed away shortly after being born, which led to Lauren having serious struggles with her mental health, at one point admitting, ‘I don’t want to be here’.
But thankfully, this strong lady has weathered the storms, and enjoying life. The source added: “After everything she’s been through, TOWIE feels like going home – and it has given her a new sense of excitement. It feels like a great start to 2024. Lauren feels this new chapter is helping her slowly find herself again, after a difficult few years.
“A lot of fans online, the press, and people on social media are bringing up her and Mark Wright’s relationship, including old videos, which is frustrating for her.”
Lauren’s ex Mark married actress Michelle in 2015, with the pair fast approaching their ten-year wedding anniversary. The source tells us Lauren knows the Heart Radio presenter is also happily moved on and is ‘fed up with people gossiping about her and Mark when it’s old news’.
They added: “The relationship was a decade ago, and she has had so much going on since then, and Lauren has had other relationships. She does understand it to a degree; their relationship was a huge part of TOWIE, but no one wants to keep hearing about your ex!
They continued, “Lauren never speaks about Mark on or off-camera as she’s totally over the situation and has no bad blood towards him, so it’s frustrating, and she hopes it will blow over.
“Lauren feels like she has moved on, and so has Mark with Michelle, and the rest of the world needs to also. She’s getting fed up with people gossiping about her and Mark when it’s old news.”
One thing’s for sure – after some tough times, Lauren is definitely riding high right now -she’s older, wiser, and fans can’t get enough of her return to the Essex posse.
Speaking to Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond on This Morning recently about her much heralded return, Lauren herself admitted, ‘It feels weird because it’s so long ago but coming back to the show it feels like I never left. I feel like the same Lauren again.’
