TV famous Northumberland pub with stunning views ranked one of the UK’s ‘most romantic’ places

A TV famous Northumberland pub could be about to have an even busier than expected Valentine’s Day, having been named one of the UK’s ‘most romantic’ restaurants.

As the clock ticks down to February 14, many people’s thoughts are now on where to book up to treat their better half to a date night, or where they will be taken for the occasion. Well, if you are fancying breaking with tradition and not going to town on Valentine’s night, there is a great alternative up the coast if you’re looking to impress and that is because The Jolly Fisherman at Craster has just made it into the top 100 list of the restaurants in the UK with the best romantic vibes.

The new list was compiled by booking experts OpenTable, ahead of Valentine’s Day 2025, with The Jolly Fisherman joining two restaurants in Newcastle and its Northumberland neighbour, The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh in the guide. Describing the business to OpenTable customers, The Jolly Fisherman’s owners say: “Combining stunning sea views with delicious home cooking and beautifully kept ales, this is a tastefully refurbished pub with tradition and character at its heart.”

They added: “We’ve taken great care to retain the charm of this historic pub with stone flagged floors, low beamed ceilings and comfortable seating. In the winter months, you can relax by one of our roaring open fires and in the summer enjoy the view from one of the most spectacular beer gardens in Northumberland.”

One person who is a huge fan of The Jolly Fisherman is Masterchef judge and This Morning regular John Torode, who made a return visit to the pub at the start of 2023, having first being blown away by their crab sandwiches 20 years earlier. Delighted to welcome him with an ITV crew, The Jolly Fisherman posted about John on their Facebook page, writing: “What a great platform for the Northumberland coast and its local seafood to be showcased. We are truly blessed and proud to have so many amazing fresh, local produce options here in Craster and throughout Northumberland”

And John’s visit to Craster to filmi for This Morning was the only time The Jolly Fisherman has attracted TV stars in recent years, with a team from Antiques Roadshow calling in in 2018, during a break in production for the BBC Sunday night favourite.
