Don’t leave your girl around Usher; she may get fed cherries.
The eight-time Grammy winner appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week, and around the 2:30-minute mark, was asked about how his signature concert stunt began. Throughout Usher’s Past Present Future Tour, which concluded its North American leg last December, the singer has fed cherries to women in the audience, including some famous names.
Previously, during his second Las Vegas residency, Usher would serenade female attendees with his 2010 single “There Goes My Baby.” One of the women was Hudson, who went to a show with her boyfriend, Common, in 2023.
“Well, it started with strawberries in Vegas. So, you know, I just figured
we just try all the fruits until we figure out which one works the best,” Usher joked.
“But cherries were something that I felt was fun and just kind of active. It was a bit erotic,” he continued.
When asked if his wife, Jennifer Goicoechea, “approved” of the cherry feeding, Usher added, “Well, she didn’t come to the concert ’cause she was hungry.”
“It’s just just fun activation and, I mean, that’s what R&B is all about–being connected and making people feel something,” he said. “I don’t mean to break up houses.”
On whether he takes “responsibility” for any breakups that happen after his shows due to the cherry-feeding, the 46-year-old made an innocent look and denied having “claim” to ended relationships.
“I have a very happy home and I don’t want to break up anybody else’s happy
home,” he said. “But, if you’re going to take the risk, why not come to the Usher show and have a good time?”
We can bet on Usher continuing his “erotic” move as the Past Present Future Tour continues its international leg beginning in March.
