Kendrick Lamar took the stage for the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX halftime show and gave a performance to remember.
On Sunday, the Compton native took over Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans to perform hits spanning his entire catalog. The rapper opened with Samuel L. Jackson serving as the narrator before going through the GNX teaser song that fans have been begging K Dot to release. K Dot then went through electrifying renditions of “Squabble Up,” “Element,” “DNA,” “Man at the Garden,” “Euphoria,” “All the Stars” with an appearance from SZA, and more.
The moment that people were waiting for came to life with Kendrick performing “Not Like Us” on the biggest stage. He even went through with the controversial “a minor” line. Eagle-eyed fans (no pun intended) picked up on various instances where K Dot took additional aim at Drake, looking directly into the camera when saying Drizzy’s name during his performance of the diss track.
Fans speculated Kendrick’s “a” chain could also be about the “a minor” line.
The Super Bowl halftime performance is another tally in the win column for Kendrick, who’s been on a tear for the last 11 months following his earth-shattering verse on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That.” His verse on that song officially kicked off the explosive rap battle between himself and Drake, leading to a wild back-and-forth that culminated in the release of “Not Like Us.”
The song itself won every category in which Kendrick was nominated, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
