Newcastle United’s players stand on the brink of becoming club legends as they head into Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. The Magpies travel to Wembley this weekend looking to lift silverware for the first time in 56 years.
Not since 1969, when Bob Moncur lifted the Fairs Cup, has a Newcastle captain got his hands on a major trophy. You have to go back even further, 70 years to 1955, for the last piece of domestic silverware to end up in the St James’ Park trophy cabinet after they won the FA Cup.
Eddie Howe’s men came so close two years ago to ending that drought. Then, they reached the Carabao Cup final but lost 2-0 against Manchester United with the country’s eyes upon them. Now, those eyes will again be firmly fixed on Howe and his players when they take on Liverpool at the home of English football.
Tickets for the game have been much sought after. Newcastle were handed an allocation of around 32,000 which were snapped up in a series of ballots. A number are now appearing on resale sites at ridiculous prices.
If you haven’t got a ticket and wish to watch the game at home, Sky Sports are showing it live. You can take advantage of Sky Sports’ discounted TV bundle to make sure you don’t miss a kick.
The Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle is now £35 and includes more than 1,000 live matches each season across the Premier League, EFL and more.
It’s not just the Carabao Cup final that sees Newcastle live on Sky. Their trip to Leicester City on Monday, April 7 has also been selected for live coverage on Sky Sports Premier League HD, as has their home game against Manchester United on Sunday, April 13 (4.30pm kick-off).
It’s a hat-trick the following week as a third successive game is shown live, a crunch trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, April 19 (5.30pm). Both teams are going for Champions League qualification, ensuring a potential Saturday blockbuster.
You can watch all of those games by signing up to the Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. And hopefully, you’ll be watching a Newcastle team in action that has ended the long wait for silverware.
Alternatively, Virgin Media also offers Sky Sports with select TV packages like the Bigger Combo bundle + Sports, which also includes more than 200 TV channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband.
