A person has been airlifted to hospital after a serious collision on the A688 in County Durham.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of the road near New Coundon shortly after 7.30am on Monday morning. Durham Constabulary confirmed that the road was closed in both directions and advised motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route for their journeys.
A statement from the North East Ambulance Service read: “We were called to reports of a road traffic incident on A688 in New Coundon at 7.41am this morning (Monday 23 December).
“We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). One patient was taken to James Cook University Hospital by air.”
