The wait is almost over. Newcastle United head to London to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final looking to end 70 painful years without a major domestic trophy.
Eddie Howe’s side are potentially just 90 minutes away from what would be a famous victory – but Premier League champions-elect Liverpool stand in their way. Arne Slot’s side have largely swept aside everyone they have come up against this season, losing just once in the Premier League to date.
However, they saw their FA Cup hopes ended by Plymouth Argyle, and exited the Champions League on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold picking up an injury. United have selection issues of their own with Sven Botman and Lewis Hall injured, while England winger Anthony Gordon is suspended.
