Who is Bear on Masked Singer UK? Top guesses include a Hollyoaks star and rapper

The Masked Singer UK’s sixth season is thrilling fans everywhere as they eagerly play detective, trying to unveil the celebs behind the new characters.

We’ve had some major reveals so far, with faces like Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway, Bake Off’s Prue Leith, 90s pop icon Macy Gray, T’Pau’s Carol Decker, and the fab Mel Giedroyc stepping out from their quirky disguises.

Last weekend’s show featured a double reveal as artist Grayson Perry and Irish songstress Andrea Corr were unmasked as Kingfisher and Snail. With only five secret stars left – Bear, Bush, Dressed Crab, Pufferfish, and Wolf – the competition is heating up.

Bear has got fans utterly bamboozled with guesses flying left, right, and centre. They’ve been wowing us all, belting out tunes ranging from West End’s You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two to Will Smith’s groovy hit Miami.

Everyone’s abuzz with predictions – so before tonight’s nail-biter of a semi-final, let’s dive into the rumours about our enigmatic Bear.

Richard Blackwood

One name that’s been popping up since early on is Richard Blackwood. The EastEnders alum was flagged by Jonathan Ross in one of the initial episodes, reports the Mirror.

Richard cheekily addressed the whispers during a Good Morning Britain chat, teasing: “That’s how I’d do it if I was to do it.”

Richard hinted that Bear’s “swagger” might have aroused suspicions about his identity, and cheekily mentioned “it’s hot” inside the costume, before quickly adding, “So I’ve heard.”

Speculation continued to swirl when Richard may have inadvertently unveiled himself as Bear in a bit of a blunder during a live ITV News interview. He awkwardly suggested, “The moves and the way I… I mean, that’s how I would do it,” which left him looking somewhat sheepish. Could this be a slip of the tongue or just an elaborate dodge?

Example

Some eagle-eyed fans are convinced that Elliot John Gleave, alias rapper Example, is under the Bear guise. Confirming fans’ hunches, comedian Mo Gilligan concurred after dropping the musician’s name in connection with Bear last weekend.

He confessed, “Now, I’ve got a confession to make, guys. I think I’ve known who this is for a couple weeks, I’m just gonna say it out now,” and posited, “I think, under there, is my friend Example. I think it could be.”

Mo dissected Bear’s posture, drawing similarities to Example, and pointed out the “EG” clue, matching the rapper’s initials, alongside references spanning multiple music genres.

Fellow panellist Maya Jama also supported this theory adding, “I think it’s Example, as well.”

Her reasoning tied in the recent chicken-related hint with Example’s musical antics alongside Ed Sheeran, where they performed a Nando’s-themed tune on YouTube. Might they be on the right track?

Doc Brown

Many fans have noted that Bear’s voice bears a striking resemblance to Ben Bailey Smith, better known as Doc Brown.

Doc isn’t only famous for his role as DS Joe Hawkins in Law and Order: UK, but he also stormed onto the scene as Imperial Security Bureau agent Lieutenant Supervisor Blevin in Disney+’s Andor. He even led the cast of CBBC’s hit series 4 O’Clock Club from 2012-2015, where he dazzled with his rap skills – channelling the musical vibes of Bear.

Apart from his on-screen achievements, Doc has penned a children’s book titled I Am Bear and is an avowed supporter of Crystal Palace – hints of which were subtly included in one of Bear’s earlier clue packages.

Social media detectives are all over this, with one savvy viewer asserting on X (used to be Twitter), “Bear is Doc Brown I think,” while another confidently said: “Bear is Ben Bailey Smith (Doc Brown). Again, shan’t hear otherwise.”

Guesses for Bear’s identity have been wild, ranging from Patrick Stewart and Tom Davis to David Harewood and Reggie Yates, with stage and West End cues peppering the clue packages, suggesting we might be looking for a theatrical whizz. With sagas of football and comedy referenced in the VTs too, it seems like there’s quite a mix to decode.

However, some viewers have thrown their hands up, as Bear’s ever-changing tunes have them beat, with one exasperated fan previously posting online: “Bear changes what they sound like every week. So I’m not even going to try.”
