He”s a man with many classics in his locker and Will Smith will be back on stage in the UK this summer, with a series of shows in some rather unexpected locations. And the one closest to Newcastle, where he will start the leg over here, is somewhere he will have probably never been before.
It was back in the early 90s that American star Will first shot to global fame, thanks to being in smash hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the show that came complete with a theme tune that many of us can still reel off word for word. It wasn’t long before a young Will found himself at the top of the charts in the UK with Boom Shake The Room in 1993, having collaborated with Jazzy Jeff, who was also his duet partner on sun-drenched anthem Summertime.
Will has also topped the charts over here with the title track from 1997’s Men in Black, including its much copied dance break; with other hits from the Will Smith back catalogue including Miami, Getting Jiggy With It, Wild Wild West and Will 2K.
You’re bound to hear all of them if you get a ticket to see him on the UKL leg of his Based on A True Story in August. And the place he’ll kick off the strong of dates is a place that fellow US icons Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have already played – Scarborough Open Air theatre, which is a two hour drive from Newcastle on the outskirts of the famous seaside town.
Will will be on stage there on August 24, before also visiting the likes of Cardiff, Manchester, London and Wolverhampton. Tickets will be available on pre-sale from Wednesday. If you want some you’ll need to sign up via the Will Smith website before general sale begins on Friday, March 21.
Excited to announce the tour on Instagram, will wrote: “I’M GOING ON TOUR THIS SUMMER!! We’re hitting up UK & Europe to bring U all the hits, some new joints, and a few surprises 😉 All these years, I’ve NEVER done a headline tour and I can’t wait to see you guys!”
